Welcome to Egestabase

A goldmine of evidence from research and practice on the recovery and reuse of plant nutrients found in human excreta and municipal wastewater.

This evidence is otherwise scattered across different sources and rapidly growing, making it difficult to navigate and keep track of. Our ambition is to support diverse actors around the world finding and navigating this evidence with ease.

Ultimately, we hope to contribute to increased nutrient and carbon recirculation in a way that supports healthy water, soil, food, and people.

Framework and Option Space

Our framework is underpinned by the the following core dimensions.

  • Source: Where are nutrients recovered from?
  • Technology: Which recovery technology is being used?
  • Product: In what form are nutrients recovered?
  • Reuse: How are nutrients reused?
  • Target: Which nutrients are targeted?

Distinct combinations of these dimensions span the option space for nutrient recovery and reuse.
