EGESTABASE

EGESTABASE aspires to comprehensively map scientific evidence on the recovery of nutrients from human excreta and municipal wastewater for reuse in agriculture.

The rationale is that research in this field has intensified over the past years, making it increasingly hard to navigate and keep track of.

EGESTABASE is a combination of the terms ‘egesta’ and ‘database’. Learn more about the term ‘egesta‘.

Egesta

The term ‘egesta’ refers to matter that is digested from the body, as excrement or other waste. Our use of the term is inspired by the EGESTA LAB at the University of British Columbia. As suggested by Dr. Gunilla Öberg of the Egesta Lab, the term ‘egesta’ is not tied to a certain way of thinking and thus invites us to re-frame challenges and opportunities as well as re-imagine workable solutions.

CO-DESIGN

This beta version of EGESTABASE uses an incomplete dataset and visualisations are experimental.

To make sure that EGESTABASE will be as useful as possible for various actors working with nutrient recovery and reuse, interested actors are invited to participate in the design process.

Current Co-Design Activities

We are excited that you are interested in helping us design EGESTABASE. Throughout March 2022, we are running a series of expert focus groups.

ABOUT US

We are a team of Swedish researchers who want to help others easily navigate the rapidly expanding body of research on circular nutrient solutions with ease. EGESTABASE is the key output of the project END-OF-WASTEWATER. Learn more about the team and the project on www.endofwastewater.net.

We gratefully acknowledge financial support from the Kamprad Family Foundation.

Team

We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers with complementary skills and experiences.
